Coffee
After the state of Huila, Antioquia is the largest producer of Colombian coffee. It has dedicated 50% of its arable land to producing coffee. Each season, September through December, it takes an estimated 80,000 workforce to collect more than 138,000,000 pounds of ripe coffee cherries. It represents 16% of the country’s total production. Its varied climate, cold from the altitude and warm from the Caribbean Sea, produces the environmental elements for a perfect taste with a slightly herbaceous and fruity border. Antioquia’s coffee crops are planted at an average of 8,000 feet above sea level.
